Favourite 5 Dubai Adventures

Whether it’s zipping through skyscrapers, hitting the desert sands on a dune buggy or quad bike or flying over the waves of the Arabian Gulf, Dubai has every sort of adventure for the young – and the young at heart. Here’s our pick of the best ways to make exhilarating memories in Dubai.

Visit Kite Beach – (as shown above) Kitesurfers flock to the aptly named Kite Beach to test their skills against the emerald waters of the Arabian Gulf. Rent equipment from operators along the sand and then challenge the elements. Afternoons, when the wind picks up and the waves follow suit, are ideal for the most jaw-dropping action. Want to sit back and enjoy the aquatic acrobatics? Find a spot on the lively stretch of sand that also offers a great view of the Burj Al Arab. When you’re feeling hungry, head to Salt – a Kite Beach hotspot that started as only a food truck but has now evolved into a beachside terrace. Its simple menu includes sliders with a twist (such as chicken, cheese, and Cheetos), fries, pink lemonade, lotus shakes and soft-serve ice-cream.

XLine Dubai Marina – Dubai’s latest adventure attraction is XLine Dubai Marina, which is also one of the world’s steepest and fastest zip lines. Hold on tight as you zip across the city at 80km/h, soaking up views of the glitzy Dubai Marina neighborhood’s yachts and shiny high-rises before landing on the terrace of Dubai Marina Mall. XLine measures one kilometer in length and features an incline of 16 degrees. With two concurrent ziplines, you can also share the experience with a friend. Thanks to helmet Go-Pros, you’ll also receive a video and photographs of this awesome experience so you can relive the action later.

Cost: AED650 per person or AED1200 for two

Safari Expedition of Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve – Take a safari expedition to experience the quintessential Arabian desert. In the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, you’ll be able to spot wildlife such as the Arabian Oryx and gazelle. Stop for a camel ride and, during cooler months, try sandboarding down the highest dunes. Arabian Adventures also offers night safaris that include stargazing and scorpion tracking with a black light that causes the scorpion’s exoskeleton to glow in the dark. Other safari options include sunset viewing with a three-course buffet dinner (with vegetarian options) served at a Bedouin-style desert camp. Escape from Dubai’s city sounds and enjoy a nature experience you’ll never forget.

Cost: Safaris start from AED231 a person

Ride the Dunes Feel the sand whipping across your face during a dune buggy or quad bike ride through the Arabian desert. Pared-back dune buggies are vehicles that have been customized for high-energy dune driving. With no doors, roof or windows, they feature a roll cage, bucket seat and safety harness, along with extra suspension for tackling the dunes at high speeds. Head out on a desert safari with Dune Buggy Dubai, which offers morning, evening and overnight dune buggy safaris that allow you to tackle dunes featuring heart-stopping 45-degree slopes. The company also offers quad bike safaris.

Nature Escape at Hatta – Hatta is the ideal destination for thrill-seekers and nature-lovers who like mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking. Hit the high road to discover Dubai’s piece of the Hajar Mountain range, a 90-minute drive from the city’s glittering skyscrapers. The red-grey rocky outcrops contrast against sparkling blue bodies of water in this otherworldly elevated landscape that’s cooler than central Dubai. Hatta, once known for its fort and desert farms, now attracts adventure sports enthusiasts, in particular, mountain bikers who can hit a thrilling purpose-built track. You can also kayak the sapphire-blue waters of Hatta Dam. If you want to enjoy the natural scenery a little longer, check in at the four-star Hatta Fort Hotel.

Cost: Kayak hire from AED60 per person
