Favourite 5 All-Inclusive Resorts in the US

When most people think of all-inclusive vacations, they think of beachfront resorts in and around the Caribbean.  However, the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, and areas of Central America such as Costa Rica and Belize, etc. aren’t the only places to enjoy an all-inclusive vacation.  There are several resorts that offer this type of experience throughout Europe, with the most popular and well-known destinations belonging to Club Med. And there are some in Canada and throughout the United States as well.

Some time ago, we reviewed one of the most popular all-inclusive destinations in Ontario, Canada – the longstanding Fern Resort, which is a small but multi-faceted property that offers year-round activities and attracts multi-generational visitors. Click HERE to read what we had to say.  For the purpose of this particular article, however, we’re going to focus on our Favourite 5 all-inclusive destinations on the US mainland. One thing you will quickly notice is that most resorts of this nature do NOT come cheap.

Here are our Favourite 5:

Bungalows Key Largo, Florida

This little piece of paradise, which is designed for adults only, is the very first of its kind in the Florida Keys. The expansive 12-acre property contains 135 private villas located on 12-acres of oceanfront property.

The beachfront includes several beach cabanas, 2 jacuzzi tubs, and 3 piers that stretch toward the deep blue water. The resort itself features 3 restaurants and a wellness spa with a variety of treatments and daily yoga.  There is also a tiki bar and tiki boats for guest outings.

Like most all-inclusive properties, all meals and drinks are included and are built into the price of $399 per person per night.  If you’re thinking this sounds high, you wouldn’t be wrong.  It translates to $5,600 U.S. a week per couple, which would cover the cost of approximately 2 all-inclusive week-long vacations in Cuba or the Dominican Republic.  Be that as it may, chances are that your experience in the islands would not come close to being as modern and upscale as this one, with bungalows fit for a queen, food fit for a king, and views that will take your breath away.

It’s really no wonder this resort ranks first on our list of favourites and can be seen in the lead photo of this article.

(Note: Bungalows suffered a fire in early May of this year but is in the process of rebuilding with expectations of reopening in early winter. To that end, they are currently taking reservations for December 2019)

White Stallion Ranch in Tucson, Arizona

For an authentic taste of western American culture, you can’t beat the all-inclusive destination of the White Stallion Ranch in Tucson, Arizona.  This place has earned a reputation as the perfect blend of a dude ranch and a luxury resort.

Accommodations, as you would imagine, contain plenty of wood and are decorated in a western theme.  Cowboy-inspired furnishing and blankets with a New Mexico flare complete the look.  Individual patios offer views of cactus gardens and the desert in the distance.

Owned and operated by the True family, the 3rd generation of resort owners pride themselves on their personalized service, including their ability to match the right horse with the right guest. Not only does this resort offer a horseback riding experience through the desert, as you would expect they would, they also feature a petting zoo, a heated pool and an indoor redwood hot tub.  Modern amenities include a recreation room and a movie theatre, along with nightly entertainment.

The Resort at Paws Up – Greenough, Montana

This all-inclusive luxury Dude Ranch is set on 37,000-acres of a working homestead that includes a few hundred Black Angus cattle and 300 resident elks. When it comes to blending extravagance with a frontier cowboy experience, this place is undoubtedly among the best.  It offers an eclectic mix of opulent private homes and sophisticated camping in the midst of Big Sky country and all of the magnificence of nature.  The setting is perfect with a grocery list of onsite activities including fly-fishing, clay shooting, guided ATV tours, and whitewater rafting, as well as the type of dude ranch experiences that guests would expect, such as cattle drives and trail riding. The fact is, there’s so much to do that unless you spend a full week, or perhaps longer, there is no way you will be able to experience it all.

Accommodations include individual private homes, decked out in features and frills, each with its own unique appearance and personality, not to mention a LOT of privacy. Lofts and vaulted ceilings, flat screen TVs, laundry facilities, rain showers and jetted spa tubs with heated bathroom floors, top shelf linens and comforters, and wireless Internet are just ‘a few’ of the appointments found in each house. And let’s not forget the balconies or porches that offer up stunning views.

There are numerous package deals depending on the type of experience you wish to have during your stay, but generally speaking, they range between $400 and $1400 per person per night, with the family vacation package coming in at $681 per person per night.

Club Med Sandpiper Bay, Florida

Located on the banks of the Saint Lucie River, approximately 2 hours north of Miami, this all-inclusive resort was designed with family vacations in mind.

Boasting 307 deluxe and superior rooms spread across 7 separate buildings, this Club Med destination has a contemporary design with a bold and bright colour scheme.

Amenities include a wellness spa and plenty of water and land sports activities such as tennis and golf.  There are 2 bars and 3 onsite restaurants as well, featuring gourmet cuisine. Daytime and evening entertainment is included in the all-inclusive package, along with free Wi-Fi and all gratuities. On the low end, rates start at $115 per person per night, however, they climb significantly based on the time of year you choose to go and the type of accommodations you choose.

Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa

This adults-only wellness retreat, located in Tuscon, Arizona, is a modern and peaceful resort with stunning desert views and plenty of indulgent amenities.  With rates starting at $529 per person per night, the experience includes three health-conscious meals per day in addition to unlimited smoothies and freshly prepared snacks that guests can grab and go.
The resort offers 120+ wellness lectures and seminars to choose from and includes a number of experiences such as outdoor adventures, zip lining, yoga and equine experiences, to name a few.  However, do not assume equine experiences translates to horseback riding because it doesn’t.  Instead, horses are used in a number of ways to help guests improve communication and heal from fear and trauma.
Decorated beautifully in earth tones, the retreat’s luxury accommodations include a choice of rooms, suites or villas.  However, staying overnight is not necessary in order to reap the benefits of wellness programs seeing as Miraval also offers day packages.

Special Mention goes to

Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan
This all-inclusive option is a delightfully quaint resort with a 1920s retro look and feel.  The concept is unique, the views are stunning, and the resort does an amazing job of keeping everything looking like the backdrop to the Roaring ’20s.  This destination even includes a horse and carriage to transport guests around the property.  The only thing we found to be a drawback was the room decor which is slightly over the top for our particular taste, in hues of ruby red, lime green, sunflower yellow or candy-stripe pink.  For anyone sensitive to bright colours and a multitude of mixed florals, stripes, and patterns, this decor might cause issues as it did for our reviewers.  However, the room decor is the only reason this resort is not among our Favourite 5
