What’s more appealing than an afternoon of golf? How about an unforgettable round of golf with the gorgeous backdrop of The Islands of Tahiti? French Polynesia offers golf fans two magnificent golf courses, one in Tahiti and another in Moorea. A mini-golf is also available on Raiatea.
Golf International Olivier Bréaud
Golf International Olivier Bréaud’ was created in the 1970s on an old cotton plantation on the west coast of Tahiti, at Atimaono, 41 kilometers from the center of Papeete. It offers an 18-hole golf course that is accessible to beginners and experienced duffers alike. This course is renowned internationally for the quality of its fairways and its greens as well as for the beauty of its location. The course at Atimaono is 5,950 meters long for a 72 stroke par and is approved by the French Golf Federation. It welcomes numerous international players annually to the Open International de Tahiti (Tahiti International Open) which today makes it part of the PGA (Professional Golf Association) FPG (Federation Polynésienne de Golf – Polynesian Golf Federation) circuit.
Moorea Green Pearl
Moorea Green Pearl is a course located in the village of Temae. The French company Grégori International created this 18 hole golf course, which was designed by the legendary American golfer Jack Nicklaus. Just a few minutes from Moorea airport (flight time from Moorea to Tahiti – 10 minutes), and 10 minutes from the ferry wharf (crossing time: about half an hour), the newer of the Polynesian golf courses was inaugurated in 2007; it welcomes a growing clientele onto its 165 hectares, 650 meters of which are on the shores of the lagoon.
Mini-Golf and Practice in Raiatea
In the south of Raiatea, in Vaiorie (PK 41, East Coast), on a lush site at the edge of the lagoon, a mini-golf of 10 holes awaits you. The low entrance fee includes the rental of clubs and balls. Clubs are available for right-handed and left-handers, for young and old alike. Reservations required to play.
Whether you are a serious golfer, or just want to play a few rounds of mini-golf, the golf courses on the Tahitian islands are the perfect place to unwind.
