Golf Destination: North Florida

Playing golf together as a family is a great way to bond, to get out in the fresh air and exercise, as well as experience a bit of friendly competition.  A family day is a fantastic way to get the kids away from the TV and their electronics and inspire some real conversation.  As well, it teaches patience, sportsmanship, a few math skills, and even an appreciation for nature and wildlife depending on which course you choose to visit.  If you’re looking for some family-friendly courses, here’s our list of some of the best in Northern Florida.

Northern North Florida (Nassau County – Amelia Island)

The Omni Amelia Island Plantation has 54 holes of golf and offers a $50 resort credit if you stay there that can be used on the course. The unlimited golf package offers unlimited green fees and two courses that have two forward family tees: Oak Marsh & Ocean Links. Even if you have little ones that aren’t in the mood to play every hole, Ocean Links has 5 holes that have oceanfront views and are beautiful places to explore! If they aren’t down for playing golf every day of the vacation (like I’m sure you will be), the resort also offers a really fun kids camp!

North East Northern Florida (Jacksonville)

Windsor Park Golf Club is a great course for junior players. Junior members have access to special junior club member tournaments, the PGA Junior League, the NFJG Tournaments, US Kids Tournaments, and the Hurricane Jr. Golf Tour. When they join, they get their own junior membership bag tag, reduced prices on all merchandise in the shops, 3 small baskets per day for the driving range program, and juniors play free when accompanied by an adult. The social membership for juniors is also excellent: movies on the range, pizza and putting mixers, video game night, trivia, dances, and social networking skills clinics. Kids can learn to fundraise and budget, have professional role models, learn about physical and psychological wellness to avoid burnout in the workplace/school in golf clinics offered throughout the year. This is an excellent family-oriented course.

Middle North Florida (St. Augustine & Ponte Vedra)

The St. John’s Golf and Country Club hosts a fantastic series of clinics for young golfers (ages 10-18) every Wednesday at 3 pm for only $15. The clinic focuses on fundamentals and offers some personalized one-on-one instruction. Each clinic focuses on one topic and builds off of the last clinic. Space is limited to the first 10 to sign up. The junior membership is $79 a month and includes unlimited range access, unlimited walking Monday – Thursday and after twilight Friday – Sunday, 20% off all golf merchandise and Grille Room beverages, and members are eligible to play in 4 tournaments. Monday afternoons are reserved for junior member only games.
