Review of Sentidos Beach Retreat – Mozambique

by GO GlobeHopper

If you’re looking for a unique and exotic destination that offers beauty, privacy, and the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, then look to Africa’s eastern coast, in particular, to Mozambique’s Sentidos Beach Retreat. This Inhambane resort is within 3 mi (5 km) of Heroes’ Square, Inhambane Park, and Inhambane Museum. Tofo Beach and Barra Beach are also within 20 mi (32 km).

It’s trendy in the sense that it’s a boutique resort – one that is smoke-free and respects its environmental surroundings of ocean and mangroves, as well as the villages and native huts of Barra Beach. Yet, it is exclusive and low-key, respecting the utmost solitude and seclusion of its guests.

The property contains twelve secluded villas, each with air conditioning and a private pool, as well as a stunning view of the beach and ocean.

The interior design is laidback yet luxurious and is finished with exotic accents and woods.  Room amenities include high-end sheets, a deep soaking tub plus a satisfying shower, a sitting area, and a furnished patio, LCD TV, a minibar, and free wi-fi.  The villas are connected to the main building by a wooden bridge.

On-site amenities include concierge services, a restaurant, bar and lounge, and an outdoor pool.  Granted, it’s small but considering the resort is compact, the pool size is fitting.  There is also a fitness center, laundry facilities, and a Kid’s Club with plenty to keep children happily busy while parents relax. Free buffet breakfast is provided, as well as free WiFi in public areas. Plus, there is free self-parking and a free airport shuttle.

Activities in the area include diving and snorkeling in the waters of the Indian Ocean where you’ll find an abundance of sea life including seahorses, stingrays, and whale sharks.  Landlubber activities include horseback riding along the beach.

PROS:  The resort is new so everything is clean and well maintained.  Rooms are spacious. The views and surrounding area are beautiful.  The Kid’s Club is excellent for small children. Management and the staff, in general, are friendly and very responsive.  The food is high quality and the restaurant staff routinely go above and beyond for guests.

CONS: Expensive.  Very small and books up quickly so if you’re thinking of going, be sure to make reservations in plenty of advance or risk being disappointed. Even though the resort is known to be peaceful and quiet over the majority of the year, during the high season (Christmas and New Years) when families gather, visitors can expect the resort to be quiet the opposite, with lots of noise created by children, boats, cars and even 4X4’s on the beach.
