Review of the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel & Conference Centre – Toronto

by GO GlobeHopper

Planning a flight in or out of Toronto and need accommodations?  Looking for a good place to hold a meeting, a conference, an event, or perhaps a reception?  Then may we suggest Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel & Conference Centre, located on Dixon Road conveniently just minutes from Pearson Airport.

This contemporary hotel recently underwent extensive renovations and the result is an effective mix of style and comfort. Rooms are clean and modern in hues of beige and brown, which might sound commonplace for a hotel and dull on paper, however, the Sheraton has made it fashionable with rich black accents, chic furniture, and an artistic bed frame with an etched design.  The frame incorporates the end tables, lighting, and convenient charging stations. Plush and textured carpeting not only provides an extra element of design but also an extremely cushy floor.

The bathroom is fairly standard but modern and very clean, with a large and adjustable shower head and citrus bath products by Le Grand Bain. And nothing finishes off an invigorating shower like snuggling in a warm and soft robe, which you will find hanging in the cupboard.

Rooms include mini-fridges, a coffee maker, a large writing desk, a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board, several charging stations, and a large flat-screen TV.  A chaise lounge-style chair forms the seating area near the window and comes complete with a multi-purpose accent table.  Conveniently, wi-fi is free of charge throughout the hotel.

We were quite impressed with the rooms; certainly, the recent renovations have taken them to the next level with a sense of sophistication without sacrificing any comfort. The framed artwork lends a homey touch to the room, as well as adds to the style.

The Club Floor (top floor) is available to regular guests at a premium of $50.  Accommodations on this floor allow for plenty of extras, including and breakfast in the morning and hors d’ouvres and sweets in the afternoon and evening, as well as a variety of drinks.  This certainly comes in handy for grabbing a quick bite before an early morning flight, grabbing a snack upon check-in, or simply getting a drink before bed. The club room is attractive and well maintained, with a large TV screen and plenty of seating.

For guests seeking more than just a quick bite, an on-site steakhouse called Chop is available, along with a Mediterranean restaurant called Olio, and a relaxing lobby bar of the same name. However, if guests would prefer to dine elsewhere, the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel and Conference Centre is conveniently located amidst several restaurants, many of which are within walking distance, including Montana’s, Jack Astor’s, Boston Pizza, Tucker’s Marketplace, and Canyon Creek Steakhouse.

Onsite amenities include a domed indoor pool that allows guests to watch airport traffic fly overhead, at times appearing as though the planes are barely clearing the top of the dome. This adds to the fun of swimming here. The facility is surrounded by gardens and is extremely clean with lounges and small tables off to the side for swimmers seeking some time out. An adjacent fitness center is well-equipped with weights, exercise balls, treadmills, and ellipticals.

Extra niceties that the Sheraton thought to add to the fitness room include chilled towels, individually packaged earbuds (of decent quality) for listening to music, and a TV.

Plenty of meeting and event rooms of varying size exist within the conference wing of the property, making the Sheraton the perfect location for a business conference or celebratory gatherings, like holiday parties and weddings.

A small but efficient business center is located off to the side of the check-in desk along with a sleek lounge area overlooking gardens and a waterfall. Snacks are available near the check-in desk, plus there is a gift shop on site.

As for accessing the airport quickly and easily, the hotel has that covered with a complimentary shuttle that begins service at 3:30 am and runs every half hour.  The shuttle is shared with the Crowne Plaza hotel just down the street so expect to make a stop along the way to pick up their travelers as well. However, rest assured that it’s a short side step and won’t affect your travel time too greatly.

And if you’re looking for something to do before or after your flight or event, the hotel overlooks Royal Woodbine Golf Club where you can test your skills on their Par 72 18-hole course.

Clearly, this multi-purpose Sheraton has done well to provide as many services as possible under one roof and at a reasonable price.

PROS: Location. Amenities. Cleanliness and comfort. Great Service. Friendly staff. Attention to detail.

CONS: Water pressure in the shower is a bit low unless on jet or pulse setting. Personally, we enjoyed the ongoing sound of air traffic considering the proximity to the airport – it adds excitement to an upcoming trip. However, some guests might find the noise disruptive.
