Sesame Place San Diego

The state of California is home to numerous family-friendly theme parks, and it just got another. Sesame Place San Diego is the second theme park of its kind in the United States and the first on the West Coast. Ideal for family and friends, the 17-acre park is a collaboration between SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, Inc. and Sesame Workshop, located just 20 minutes from San Diego and 2.5 hours from Los Angeles.

Sesame Place offers 18 Sesame Street-themed rides and water attractions, including a family-friendly rollercoaster, an interactive Sesame Street Neighborhood which comes complete with the 123 Stoop, a lazy river,  water slides, and Big Bird’s Beach’s 500,000-gallon wave pool – one of the largest in Southern California – all included with park admission. Little ones can splish and splash in areas made just for their size, including Elmo’s Silly Sand Slides and The Count’s Splash Castle, a multi-level water-play attraction featuring a 500-gallon water bucket drop.

Other highlights include an imaginary trip to outer space in an Elmo-themed rocket ship, an engaging musical play area, and live daily character shows featuring beloved characters Elmo, Abby, Grover, Cookie Monster, and the award-winning Sesame Street Party Parade. Plus, there are photo opportunities with Sesame Street’s lovable characters.  All this and more come together to make this park the perfect destination for families with young children.

Sesame Place San Diego is a Certified Autism Center (CAC) as designated by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Sesame Place San Diego will mirror Sesame Place Philadelphia, which was the first theme park in the world to achieve this designation.

Robust pre-visit planning resources are available, including a park-specific sensory guide featured on its website, making it easier for parents to plan activities that satisfy their child’s specific needs and accommodations. Designated quiet spaces with comfortable seating are also incorporated into the park’s design.

Day pass tickets are US$64.99. Season Passes are also available, payable in one lump sum or as monthly installments.  Pass holders are invited to special events throughout the year and receive free parking and more. For those interested in visiting Sesame Place and adding SeaWorld San Diego, a season pass option is available for both parks also payable in one lump sum or as monthly installments.
