Situated on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the enormous property of Moon Palace Cancun is an upscale all-inclusive resort with a wide array of room layouts and views, a vast selection of restaurants, and plenty of on-site amenities. This resort scores high with families and couples, and offers an exceptional experience with excellent cuisine, premium liquor, friendly and helpful staff, and plenty to do on-site as well as in the region.
The resort is divided into 3 sections: Sunrise, Nizuc, and The Grand, the latter of which is classified as the ‘luxury’ side of the property. All accommodations are spacious, modern, and very clean, with 7 different room layouts available, including swim-out suites, family-style or two-bedroom options, and upscale Governor or Presidential suites. And each of these types comes with the option of different views, including gardens, the golf course, or sea view.
Altogether, a grand total of 16 restaurants, cafes, and fast-food facilities can be found on the property. This includes buffets and a la carte restaurants that specialize in cuisines such as Italian, Asian, Brazilian, Mexican, French, and more. A whopping 15 bars and lounges are scattered throughout the property, including the lively nightclub of Noir — all of which feature premium liquor. Plus, there is 24-hour room service.
Amenities include 8 pools, a business center, a children’s playroom, a teen lounge, a 27-hole golf course, an on-site tour operator and travel agent, a gift shop, laundry facilities, a fitness center, spa and services, and a wide range of sporting facilities. At The Grand specifically, guests will find a sizeable waterpark with a surfing simulator, waterslides, and lazy river ride, as well as an arcade with a bowling alley, billiard tables, and more. Wi-fi is free throughout the resort, and beautiful wedding venues are available.
Guests of The Grand section of the resort have access to Sunrise and Nizuc and all their related amenities. However, guests of Sunrise and Nizuc need to purchase a day pass to access amenities located at The Grand. The Day Pass grants access from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The price of the day pass fluctuates throughout the year (our latest research indicates $100 U.S.) and they are priced per person, not per couple or family.
PROS: Big beach. Huge, clean pools. Clean and well-maintained rooms. Modern decor. Excellent staff. Great food with many options. An abundance of on-site amenities. Wristbands entitle guests to visit other Palace resorts in the region, such as Palace Cozumel and Playacar Palace in Playa del Carmen.
CONS: Some room layouts do not leave a lot of floor space (mainly due to the whirlpool tub), so some guests might feel cramped with more than 2 people in the room. Guests of Sunrise and Nizuc require pricey day passes to visit The Grand section of the resort, which is where the waterpark and arcade are located, as well as some of the popular a la carte restaurants. For families with young children, the waterpark and arcade would be a big draw so the pay-as-you-go system of day passes would end up being costly.
