Review of Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya, Mexico

Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya is an adults-only all-inclusive resort featuring a modern hacienda charm and located in a secluded region of the Mexican Riviera.  The property sits on 1.5 acres of white sand beach and is surrounded by lush mangroves, only six miles from Playa del Carmen and with easy access to Cancun International Airport.

This upscale resort contains 291 suites, with a total of 9 different layouts varying in size, views, and amenities, such as swim-up suites, plunge pools, and rooftop terraces.

Regular King Room

Suites sleep between two and four adults, with the option of king-size or two double beds, all of which include evening turndown service. Some of the larger suites offer separate bedrooms and living areas. The largest accommodation is the luxury oceanfront Presidential Suite, spanning over 1,500 square feet, with butler service, upgraded amenities, and special touches throughout.

Each suite contains an LCD satellite TV, an alarm clock with Bluetooth, and complimentary wi-fi service. There is also a minibar that is replenished daily with water, beer, soft drinks, and snacks. Bathrooms come complete with rainfall showers, upscale toiletries, bathrobes, and slippers. Guests can look forward to 24-hour in-suite dining that features chef’s specialties.

The sprawling ocean-view pool includes an adjacent hot tub.  Also on the property is Modern Zen Spa, an extremely large facility at 13,659 sq. ft. (1,269 sq. m.) with 10 individual spa suites that offer a variety of treatments.  The spa also contains a Master Suite with a hydrotherapy tub, a Bridal Suite, and two indoor relaxing areas, plus a sauna and steam rooms, and a full-service beauty salon.

El Comedor – International Buffet

Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya boasts a total of nine themed restaurants and bars.  These include EL COMEDOR – the international buffet, CAPRI GRILLE for Italian cuisine, TEMPEST for sushi and Asian fusion dishes, and LOLA BEACH, which features a live DJ and bar serving tequila and mezcal cocktails, plus a restaurant for sea-to-table cuisine with a Latin flair. THE MARKET is a food & beverage concierge for romantic dinners and chef’s tastings.  A coffee house called COFFEE REPUBLIC is on-site and includes some light snacks and sweet tooth offerings of pastries and gelato.  For bars and lounges, guests will find SOCIAL as the lobby bar, OLAS for tropical hand-blended drinks and beer, plus a sports bar called LEGENDS.

Unique daily and nightly activities include aqua aerobics, water sports, cooking lessons, live performances, and more.

Guests seeking a destination wedding have the option of elegant outdoor spaces including the beach or gardens as their backdrop. Plus, there are two ballrooms.  For conferences and events, the resort offers 6,747 sq. ft. (627 sq.m.) of meeting space and unique private spaces that are ideal for all occasions and gatherings of any size.

All resort taxes, gratuities, and Wi-Fi internet access are included in this all-inclusive experience.

CONS:  

  • the resort is relatively small compared to many others in the region
  • for guests seeking peace and quiet, do not get a room by the pools
  • some rooms have a mildewy smell (this is a problem at many beachside resorts because the salt air gets into the air conditioning ducts and vents. )
  • food quality in the buffet could use improvement
