Review of the Ritz-Carlton, Turks and Caicos

by GO GlobeHopper

The Ritz-Carlton in Turks and Caicos is a luxurious 12-story beachfront resort in the Caribbean and is located just 15 minutes from the airport.  Owned by Marriott, Bonvoy Members can look forward to earning and redeeming loyalty points.  The property overlooks a gorgeous poolscape and the pristine waters of Grace Bay Beach. Complimentary Wi-Fi and drinks, as well as concierge services, welcome guests at check-in.

With a total of 147 rooms, 23 suites, 69 private residences, and five 3-story penthouse suites, there are accommodations to suit a wide variety of visitors.  Guests can choose between Junior Suites, 2 Queen Bed Deluxe Room, or 1 King Bed Deluxe Room.  Executive Suites come with a choice of 1 or 2-bedrooms. All rooms include private balconies with panoramic views and are equipped with spacious private bathrooms, featuring a full-size bathtub and separate shower, designer toiletries, and hair dryers. Other room features include signature featherbeds, coffee/tea maker, free wi-fi, LCD TVs with cable channels, a safety deposit box, and twice-daily housekeeping.  Rooms are very clean and well-maintained.

Visitors can choose between two outdoor pools (family or adults-only).  Unfortunately, however, both pools are in close proximity so adults hoping to escape loud children likely won’t find the adult pool much quieter.  Additionally, there is a lack of lounge chairs available.  Beachside cabanas (adults-only) include cabana service. An onsite spa features massage therapies, body treatments, manicures, and facials. Additional facilities include steam rooms and whirlpools, plus a 24-hour Fitness Center. A newly added luxury casino is onsite with slot machines and gaming tables, and the option to redeem points for dining, spa services, or complimentary nights at the hotel. Water sports such as kayaking, snorkeling, paddleboards, and sailing the Lady Grace Catamaran are available at an upcharge, and numerous other sports and activities in the region can be booked by the hotel’s onsite tour operator.

Additional services include a business center, wedding and event space, car parking, and an airport shuttle, plus the hotel is pet-friendly.

The resort operates on a European Plan (meals and drinks NOT included).  However, there are 3 on-site restaurants that offer vacationers the chance to indulge in steaks and seafood at BLK Steak, Italian cuisine at Casa Nonna (only open Wednesday to Sunday,) or Mediterranean cuisine at Coralli. Coralli also serves breakfast daily and provides the option to eat by the beach or pool for lunch. Visitors can check out the Lobby Lounge for sushi and cocktails between 12 – 10 p.m.  However, visitors should note that onsite restaurants are quite pricey and service can be slow at times.

PROS: Excellent location. One of the biggest resorts in the region and with the most room choices and on-site amenities.  The resort is clean. Beautiful and clean rooms. Gorgeous views.

CONS: Extremely pricey, as most travelers would expect at the Ritz-Carlton; however, the onsite restaurants seem excessively overpriced considering the slow service and the food is not exceptional – it’s good but not outstanding and doesn’t warrant the price.  Adults-only and family pools should be farther apart to ensure that they don’t interfere with each other. The casino is very busy with locals, so getting a seat at a slot machine or gaming table might prove difficult.
