One of the best sightseeing tours to embark upon when visiting the Caribbean destination of St. Kitts is the Scenic Railway. This charming excursion provides guests with a memorable tour, divided into sections of approximately 2 hours by rail and 45 minutes by bus. The scenery includes gorgeous vistas of mountains, cliffs, and canyons, fields of sugar cane, and other lush vegetation, and beautiful beaches.
The narrated tour includes points of interest such as Brimstone Hill Fortress and St. Paul’s Village, as well as windmills, sugar cane estates, and various towns as the train circles the island. It is undoubtedly the best way to experience the bulk of St. Kitts in one affordable and well-organized tour. Plus, rum punch is served on board, and there is live entertainment in the form of native dancers.
Seating is provided on two levels—the enclosed lower level and the open-air upper level, which offers a lovely breeze and the opportunity to take panoramic photos. Plus, there are washroom facilities on board.
Despite this being an excellent and worthwhile tour, travelers should note that this is an extremely old railroad, so the ride is rough and quite bumpy, and the cars have a tendency to sway erratically. For those that suffer from motion sickness or back issues, perhaps this is not the ideal tour. For those with hearing issues, the train’s speaker system is old, so the narration of the tour isn’t perfectly clear. For everyone else, you’re sure to enjoy it.
