Golf Destination: Canary Islands

by GO GlobeHopper

The Canary Islands is a golf destination that offers a year-round experience golf thanks to an average annual temperature of 22ºC and very little inclement weather.

The Islands are home to exciting championships, top international golfers, and courses design by Mackenzie Ross and Von Hagge.  Courses here feature miles of greens, beautiful valleys and beaches, lakes, lava fields, and a mix of cacti and palms.  Essentially, the courses have been created to flow seamlessly with the landscape and make use of everything it has to offer.  Some prime examples of this are Costa Teguise Golf course, which is situated in a dormant volcano in Lanzarote; Pitch & Putt located at the Hesperia Playa Dorada, alongside the beautiful Papagayo Beaches; and Lanzarote Golf which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and gives players an extraordinary view.

We highly recommend Golf Las Américas in the South of Tenerife — a picturesque 18-hole championship course designed by John Jacobs featuring broad greens, lakes, and sloping hills.  This course can be found at the Playa de las Americas resort, which has played host to several important Spanish Championships

Golfers will love Real Club de Golf de Bandama, the oldest golf club in Spain and considered to be a landmark.  Located in Gran Canaria, this club offers instructors and caddies and will satisfy all skill levels.

If you’re lucky enough to play golf in the paradise of the Canary Islands, it’s an experience you will never forget.
