The Hotel Capo d’Africa in Rome is one that consistently scores high among guests due to its superb location and outstanding quality.
This hotel is located a short 10-30 minute walk from the Colosseum, Celio Hill, San Clemente, Traiano Park, Circus Maximus, an abundance of restaurants, the city tram, and Metro Station. Although other accommodations in the area are also rated 4-stars, Hotel Capo d’Africa goes the extra mile with more on-site amenities and a few luxury touches, such as monogrammed slippers and bathrobes.

Four types of accommodations are available, in the form of Premiere, Deluxe, and Superior Rooms, all of which are essentially the same with the choice of double or twin beds – the main difference being the amount of space that is featured. Freedom Rooms allow guests to stray from conventional hotel rules, offering the ability to smoke in-room or bring a pet.
Additionally, there are Studio Suites situated on the top floor that feature a large bedroom and a walk-out terrace with sun loungers and a spectacular view. Some adjoining rooms are available in the hotel and are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Rooms include modern cherrywood furnishings with a clean, simplistic earth-tone decor, accented with a splash of color. Guests can count on air conditioning, a desk and 1 or 2 armchairs, a minibar, a digital TV, a safe, a bidet, and a walk-in closet, among a few handy accessories such as a clothesline in the bathroom, a hairdryer, and designer toiletries.
The hotel itself features a well-equipped fitness room with instructors and fitness classes available. There is also a business center, convenient laundry facilities, and free wi-fi in the lobby. Dining options include a complimentary open-air breakfast served one of two rooftop terraces, called Bistrot L’Attico. The other, called La Terrazza, is basically a bar but also features some snack foods all day and into the evening. Guests of both can sip and dine among potted flowers and lemon trees while admiring views of the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, and Quattro Coronati Church.

Like all hotels, rates vary throughout the year based on peak seasons, etc., however, be prepared to pay fees above and beyond the nightly rate. These would include a city tax per night up to 10 nights (though the tax does not apply to children under the age of 10). There is also a self-parking charge per day, plus more for wi-fi. These fees can really add up if you plan on staying more than just a night or two. It should also be noted that ALL guests, including children, are required to present a valid photo ID or their passports upon check-in.
PROS: The location is excellent, very convenient, and easy to access most tourist attractions. Rates are moderate and in keeping with the immediate area, but this hotel has more amenities than most. Rear-facing rooms are quiet. Rooms are clean and well maintained. The complimentary rooftop breakfast buffet is delicious and a great way to start the day.
CONS: Front-facing (streetside) rooms are noticeably noisy which can include everything from late-night arrivals to early morning garbage pick-up. Early morning noise from the street can be an issue. Often times the staff comes across as impersonal, noticeably abrupt, and unhelpful. In-room wi-fi is an additional charge. Birds on the terrace can cause some disruption to the open-air breakfast buffet.
