Located in downtown Jim Thorpe, PA (a region of The Poconos), travelers will find historic trains that offer a relaxing ride through the scenic countryside. The Lehigh Gorge Trains are operated by the Reading & Northern Railroad and feature diesel engines and vintage coaches that date back to 1917.
The trains run from early spring till late fall (check the website HERE for exact dates as they change annually), regardless of the weather. The roundtrips are fully narrated as the tour runs alongside the Lehigh River and over train bridges as it makes its way toward Lehigh Gorge State Park. Guests can enjoy the mountain scenery, forests, and wildlife while imagining what it was like to be a passenger on the open coaches over 100 years ago.
Tickets are available for purchase directly from the train station in Jim Thorpe, and riders can expect the trip to last approximately 70 minutes. However, trips are shortened to 45 minutes during the month of October, when demand for the tour increases due to the beauty of the fall colors in the region.
