The Mr. C Hotel in Beverly Hills is an upscale property that blends innovation with European glamour and contemporary amenities. The unique name is derived from the ownership, which is the fourth generation of the Cipriani family. Located within walking distance to Rodeo Drive, the hotel boasts views of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, including the Hollywood on the Hill sign in the distance (depending on which room you are assigned to and which direction you are facing).
Rooms and suites vary in size, from 365 to 1200 square feet, and carry an undeniable retro Hollywood flare with dark hardwood floors and black and white furniture. Accents include a black or white leather sofa (depending on the room), red accents, camera spotlights as lamps, and vintage black and white film photos on the walls. Bathrooms come with teak flooring and marble accents and feature complimentary signature bath products.
For visitors lacking transportation, a big bonus of this hotel is a house car – a Cadillac Escalade to be exact – that takes guests to destinations within a 3-mile radius. An event space, called the Starlight Ballroom, is located on the 12th floor and encompasses views of downtown LA and Santa Monica on the horizon.
Amenities include a spa specializing in massage and beauty treatments, and a beautiful boutique style pool area with a teak deck and plenty of lounges and umbrellas. Also featured near the undoubtedly small but inviting pool are luxury cabanas that seat up to 6 people and feature privacy curtains, a 42″ flat screen TV, towels and a refreshment center.
Mr. C’s onsite restaurant offers traditional Italian cooking, including pasta dishes, artisan pizzas and fresh salads. The facility also presents an extensive cocktail menu, including the hotel’s Bellini special which is often offered to guests during check-in, particularly if the process is taking a while… which, to be honest, is sometimes the case.
On the subject of service, be it dining, housekeeping, car service or check in/out, sluggishness is the biggest complaint. This isn’t to say that it happens every day, but when it does it can be frustrating for guests. It’s a shame considering the hotel does everything else so beautifully, so it begs the question as to whether staff scheduling should be revisited to ramp up personnel during expected busy periods.
PROS: Clean, comfortable and modern accommodations. Boutique atmosphere. The location coupled with the complimentary house car are good for visitors looking to explore Beverly Hills, Century City, La Brea Tar Pits, etc (however, car service does not extend to The Grove or to Hollywood/West Hollywood tourist spots incl. Walk of Fame, Hollywood & Highland Center, Hollywood Sign on the Hills, Hollywood end of Sunset Blvd.)
CONS: Expensive (in fairness, that is to be expected in Beverly Hills). The pool is very small. Dining limited. All areas of service can be frustratingly slow at times.
Overall, this is a first-rate hotel that consistently scores high with guests for its location and ambiance. It’s large enough to provide a few onsite amenities yet still small enough to provide a unique experience with personalized service.
